What it is
A rear-focused XC / marathon mountain bike tyre, but slightly wider and more aggressive than the 2.25 version.
It’s still a speed tyre, but with a bit more grip and control built in.
⚙️ What the specs mean in real riding terms
Size: 29 × 2.35
- Slightly wider than 2.25 versions
- More volume =
- better comfort
- more grip
- better stability at speed
Small upgrade toward trail confidence without losing XC speed
Fast XC profile
- Designed for:
- rolling efficiency
- acceleration
- maintaining speed on flats and climbs
Still a “go fast” rear tyre, not a grip-heavy tyre
Tread design
- Centre lugs = speed + braking control
- Side knobs = cornering stability
- Open gaps = self-cleaning (mud/loose terrain)
Translation:
- fast in a straight line
- controlled when braking
- stable in corners
ADDIX Speed compound
- Focused on:
- low rolling resistance
- decent grip
- durability balance
Not extreme grip, but efficient XC performance
67 TPI casing
- Balanced casing strength
- Durable enough for real trail abuse
- Not ultra-light race-only construction
Tubeless Ready (TR / TLR)
- Can be run tubeless
- Benefits:
- fewer punctures
- lower pressure = more grip
- better comfort on rough terrain
⚖️ Weight: ~830 g
- Slightly heavier than pure race tyres
- That extra weight = durability + stability
Rim compatibility (19–35 mm)
- Very flexible fit range
- Works on modern XC and trail rims
?♂️ How it actually rides
Compared to narrower XC tyres:
- ???? Still very fast rolling
- ???? More stable at speed
- ???? Better grip on rocks and roots
- ⬇️ Slightly heavier feel than 2.25 versions
It’s the “XC+” version of Racing Ralph
Where it fits in setups
Typically used as:
- Rear tyre in XC / marathon builds
- Paired with:
- Racing Ray (front control)
- Rocket Ron (balanced front grip/speed)
This 2.35 version leans slightly more toward:
- rougher trails
- longer rides
- more technical XC terrain
Ideal terrain
Very good for mixed riding like:
- hardpack climbs
- gravel trails
- rocky XC sections
- fast flowing singletrack
Well suited to varied terrain around Cape Town where you can get:
- fast gravel climbs
- loose rocky corners
- mixed trail surfaces
❌ Not ideal for
- enduro / downhill riding
- deep mud conditions
- ultra-light race-only setups where every gram matters
Bottom line
The Racing Ralph 29×2.35 TR is a fast XC rear tyre with extra grip and stability compared to narrower versions:
- still built for speed
- better control and comfort than 2.25
- ideal for modern XC + marathon riding on rougher terrain
