The TH Industries TH-B52S is a threaded bicycle headset intended for frames using a 1 1/8-inch threaded fork steerer. TH Industries later became closely associated with and effectively merged into FSA (Full Speed Ahead), which is why many TH Industries headset parts are cross-referenced with FSA products.
Typical characteristics of the TH-B52S include:
- Threaded headset design
- 1 1/8" steerer compatibility
- Steel or alloy cups depending on production version
- Loose-ball or caged bearing configuration
- Intended for:
- older mountain bikes,
- hybrid bikes,
- BMX/cruiser conversions,
- and retro threaded fork setups
One important distinction:
- A threaded headset uses a locknut and threaded fork steerer.
- A threadless headset (modern Aheadset style) uses stem clamping instead.
The TH-B52S is therefore not compatible with modern threadless MTB forks unless the entire fork and stem system are changed.
You are also correct that headset identification often depends on:
- steerer diameter,
- thread standard,
- stack height,
- and cup dimensions.
For older TH Industries models, replacement compatibility is frequently checked against:
- ISO/JIS standards,
- FSA threaded headset equivalents,
- or generic 1 1/8" threaded headset dimensions.
Because documentation for older TH Industries parts is limited online, mechanics often confirm compatibility by measuring:
- head tube internal diameter,
- crown race seat diameter,
- and steerer threading directly.
