This is a silicone handlebar tape, which sits in a slightly different category from standard PU or cork tapes. It’s built more around grip consistency and vibration damping than looks or ultra-low weight.
What makes it different
Silicone construction
- Naturally grippy without needing a sticky coating
- Stays consistent over time (doesn’t get slick as it wears)
- Typically reusable if removed carefully
Big plus if you ride in mixed conditions or sweat a lot.
Vibration damping
- Silicone is excellent at absorbing high-frequency road buzz
- Helps reduce:
- Hand fatigue
- Numbness on long rides
Often feels softer and more “muted” than PU tape.
All-weather grip
- “Non-slip compound” = strong grip in:
- Rain
- Sweat
- Cold conditions
This is where silicone really shines compared to cheaper tapes.
Practical benefits
- Quick drying → doesn’t stay soggy after rain
- Easy to clean → wipe it down, good as new
- Includes bar-end plugs for installation
Real-world feel
- Slightly tacky, almost rubbery feel
- Usually a bit thicker or more cushioned than race tape
- Not as “sharp” or direct as thin PU tape, but much more forgiving
Who it’s best for
- Endurance riders and long-distance cyclists
- People riding on rough roads or gravel
- Riders who prioritise grip and comfort over minimal weight
Trade-offs
- Slightly heavier than minimalist tape
- Can feel bulky if you prefer a very thin bar feel
- Aesthetics are more functional than flashy
Bottom line
This is a comfort-focused, all-conditions bar tape. If your hands get tired, numb, or slippery during rides, silicone tape is one of the most noticeable upgrades you can make.
