When the 2018 Giant Anthem 29ers were released, one of the biggest talking points was that they would take advantage of boost hub technology. While there was lot of talk about the hubs, not everyone knew what exactly this meant for them and their riding.

Stats from the manufacturers point to a 29″ rear wheel with a 148mm hub having the same stiffness as a 27.5″ wheel with 142mm hub.

Other advantages of Boost hubs:

Boost improves tyre clearance which is especially important for plus sized tyres.

The extra width on the rear hub gives riders a far wider choice when it comes to chainrings.

Increased stiffness = more precise bank handling

With a wider rear wheel, this allows for shorter chainstays to be used

Suspension pivots are able to be placed wider apart therefore increasing their stiffness
